Russell Roof Tiles
is celebrating the production of its one millionth Bute3®
tile, marking a huge milestone for the innovative tile, which
has rapidly become the company’s fastest-growing tile since
launch. The achievement comes less than a year after full
production of Bute3® began in June 2025, following an
investment of more than £20 million and five years of design,
engineering and development.
|
 |
| Produced on the
company’s new fully automated, state-of-the-art tile
manufacturing line in Burton on Trent, Bute3® has quickly
become a game-changing solution. |
|
The one millionth tile milestone reflects the strong market
demand for Bute3®, which has already been used or specified on
80-plus developments across the UK. Designed to address the
challenges facing housebuilders and developers, the product
combines the traditional appearance of a plain tile with the
efficiency of a large-format roofing solution. |
| Developed as a
thinner, lighter concrete interlocking tile, Bute3® was
engineered to retain the quality and durability Russell Roof
Tiles is known for while improving installation efficiency.
Its unique triple-tile format enables roofing contractors to
install roofs up to 33 per cent faster than alternative
products, delivering a traditional plain tile aesthetic. |
|
The product requires just 10.9 tiles per square metre,
significantly reducing the number of tiles needed compared
with traditional plain tile systems. Its reduced weight also
improves handling on site, while allowing more tiles to be
transported per pallet, helping to cut delivery requirements
and associated carbon emissions. |

Andrew Hayward, Managing Director at Russell Roof Tiles, said:
"Producing our one millionth Bute3® tile is a fantastic
achievement and a proud moment for everyone involved in
bringing this product to market. From the initial concept and
development stages through to full-scale manufacturing, Bute3®
has represented a major investment in innovation, technology
and British manufacturing." |
| "The speed at which
we have reached this milestone demonstrates the strong demand
from developers, housebuilders and roofing contractors who are
looking for products that can improve build efficiency without
compromising on quality, durability or aesthetics." |
| "Bute3® has
successfully moved from trial projects to becoming a standard
specification on several major developments. Its versatility,
ease of installation and performance continue to make it a
compelling and viable alternative to traditional plain tile,
clay and slate roof coverings." |
|
Since launch, both national and regional housebuilders have
adopted Bute3® after assessing its technical performance, cost
efficiencies and practical installation benefits. The tile’s
ability to deliver faster fixing speeds and support tighter
construction programmes has helped it gain traction across a
wide range of residential developments. |
| Russell Roof Tiles
continues to invest in the development of the product range,
including the introduction of new colour options, ensuring
Bute3® remains a versatile and future-focused solution for
modern roofing applications. |
| Reaching the one
millionth tile is not only a landmark for Bute3® but also
further evidence of Russell Roof Tiles’ commitment to
delivering innovative products that meet the evolving needs of
the construction industry through smarter design, improved
efficiency and dependable UK manufacturing. |
