| The LRWA has published
Version 2.2 of its Hot Melt Code of Practice, effective from 14 August 2026
which has been updated to align with the newly revised BS 6229:2025. The
Code is the industry’s definitive reference for the selection, design,
specification, installation and maintenance of hot‑applied polymer‑modified
bitumen (hot melt) waterproofing systems, covering everything from
zero‑falls and inverted warm roofs through to biodiverse and blue roof
build‑ups. The most significant thread running through this edition is a
renewed emphasis on drainage — specifically, achieving correct falls at deck
level to eliminate standing water, which remains one of the biggest factors
in long‑term roof performance. |

The main recommendations of the code are:

- A minimum 1:80 finished fall should be achieved
in both the general area and any internal gutters.
- For flat roofs with an area less than or equal to
50 m2, the designed fall should be greater than or equal to 1:60.
- Inverted roofs or roofs with
multi-functional finishes, no back falls should be present where ponding
could occur
- For blue roofs designed with an absolute zero fall, the finished
surface should not be constructed with back falls where there is a risk
of ponding.
- In the absence of a structural analysis, prefabricated or
site-formed falls should be designed to 1:40
- Rainfall intensity should be assessed in accordance with BS EN
12056‑3
