The £20 million state-of-the-art school will cater for 1,050 pupils aged between 11 and 16 years and has been designed to be sustainable and low-carbon. This was the first time Topspan had been used by contractors Roofdec, and they were pleased by the speed in which the product went down. Contracts director, Bob Richardson, said: “With a spanning capability of eight metres and lengths available up to 16 metres, Topspan covers a large area in a very short space of time.
Launched in March this year, Topspan is part of Ward’s increasing range of innovative roof deck solutions. Comprising a structural steel deck, PIR insulation and a metal top sheet into one product, its composite concept is attracting high levels of attention from engineers both in the UK and abroad.
As one of the leading producers of insulated roof and wall panels, Ward prides itself in being a market leader when it comes to new and innovative products. Topspan provides a clear span capability of up to eight metres and is faster to install than alternative ‘built-up’ roof deck systems. Topspan has excellent fire resistance, is Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) certified and has an environmentally sustainable PIR core, as it is CFC/HCFC-free with zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP). The internal face of the deck is pre-finished, providing a clean white interior appearance.
