| A
leading provider of training and professional development
for the roofing industry is celebrating its 10th
anniversary. For the last decade, the Sandtoft Training and
Assessment Centre – STAC – has been raising standards,
encouraging technical excellence and promoting best practice
amongst the nation’s roofers and stockists. |
 |
|
Formed in 1997, STAC was inspired by Sandtoft Chairman
Martin Oldridge who was keen to give something back to the
industry. |
|
A not-for-profit part of
Sandtoft’s business and located at the company’s
headquarters site in Doncaster, STAC’s purpose today - as
ten years ago - remains the same. |
|
Simon Dixon, Trainer and
Assessor for STAC, explains: “STAC exists to improve product
knowledge and raise awareness of good practice amongst
roofers, merchants and Sandtoft’s own staff. Now
acknowledged as one of the most respected training centres
in the UK and fully accredited by the Construction Awards
Alliance, we can assist anyone looking to obtain CSCS cards
or NVQ levels 2 and 3 in Roof Slating and Tiling.” |
|
Sandtoft was the first roof
product manufacturer to open an assessment centre like STAC
and ten years on, it still leads the way. Most notably, it
is still the only roof tile manufacturer training centre to
offer NVQ assessment and qualifications via both the On Site
Assessment and Training (OSAT) and Experienced Worker
Practical Assessment (EWPA) routes. |
|
More recently, STAC has taken
further steps in offering the EWPA route to roofers by
opening its doors at the weekend. As NVQs via this method
can be achieved in two days, this allows roofers to combine
achieving a professional qualification with their normal
working commitments. |
|
Speaking of STAC’s achievements
to date and the centre’s 10th anniversary, Simon Dixon
continued: “STAC’s 10th anniversary is great news for
Sandtoft – and for the entire roofing industry. The number
of roofers who have qualified through the centre runs into
triple figures and since it opened it has been instrumental
in driving standards of both quality and professionalism.
However this success wouldn’t have been possible without the
support of the wider roofing community. |
|
“For that reason, the STAC team
would like to thank a large number of people including John
Brash & Company, Cupa Slates, Hambleside Danelaw and The
Manthorpe Group for providing essential roofing equipment.
Also, Alexandra Sinclairs Northeast, Wensley Roofing and
Dransfield Roofing Contractors, for supplying materials and
repeatedly putting their roofers forward for STAC’s training
and assessment courses.” |
