Derbyshire Eco Centre (incorporating College of the Peak) is
running a 1 day course to introduce you to the basic
techniques used in the construction and maintenance of
heritage roofs. This Heritage Roofing course will be of
interest to anyone involved in the restoration or repair of
heritage buildings or structures. |
| This
day long, practical course will cover the following: |
- Understanding materials
- Setting out the roof and
spacing batons
- Sorting slates
- Fixings
- Dressing slates
- Edge details
- Types of mortar
- Familiarisation with
materials and the importance of employing ‘like for
like’ materials.
- The correct use of tools
and their relevance
- Practical demonstrations
of roofing techniques
- The application
materials / tiles / slates to roofs
- Repairs to existing
roofs

| All
tools and materials are provided – you just need to bring
protective clothing such as overalls and steel toe capped
boots (or equivalent sturdy footwear). Other personal
protective equipment such as dust masks and goggles will be
supplied as appropriate. |
