Here in the UK we have nothing like the tornados that have devastated Missouri and most recently Oklahoma. However just a few days ago the Met Office put out a severe weather warning as gales of up to 100mph battered the shores of the UK.
These gale force winds hit the headlines as they caused damage across the country. A woman was killed by a falling tree, three racing yachts had to be rescued in high seas and there were countless travel disruptions as toppled trucks blocked motorways, trains came to a standstill and bridges had to be closed.
Electricity cables were also knocked down leaving around 5,000 people without electricity.
The minor incidents that didn’t make the headlines were the countless number of homes damaged by the high winds.
The wind mainly focused on the North of England and much of Scotland and residents were encouraged to take necessary precautions and tie down any loose items around their property such as bins, bikes, ladders and other garden furniture.

This will protect you in the event that a tree was to fall on your house or if your roof was damaged by the wind.
Third party liability insurance can also be part of the policy which will protect you from tiles or any other loose item damaging someone else’s property. .
Have your roof examined by a professional. Insurers may not pay out if damage is caused by any loose tiles. Have these repaired as soon as possible
If you live in an area that suffers from high winds on a regular occasion such as on the coast or in the countryside then using the wind load calculator on this site will allow a tradesman to repair your roof so that wind damage will not affect you again.
